This is an interesting Syrah from the Northwest.  Although the  Appellation is part of Walla Walla, the entire AVA, the Rocks District of Milton-Freewater, is in Oregon.  It is a savory styled Syrah that is not a flavor bomb but still very good.  Purple in color with some ruby hues, mostly opaque and bright.  The nose has boysenberries, dried herbs and char.  Medium bodied.  Light to medium tannins.  On the palate, the boysenberries come thru along with some gravel notes and herbs.  Good finish.  This is nice on its own but shines more with food.  This will work well with slow cooked meats such as Brisket.  Drink over the next ten years.  It will be interesting to see both a) how this wine ages as the score should go up, and b) what happens with future releases as these vines were planted this vintage.
