2022 North Coast Wine Club Old World Blend, USA, American White Wine, Wine Review

This is made with purchased grapes in northeast Ohio. It is their version off a white Bordeaux and features a 75/25 mix of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. Light golden in color, clear and bright. The nose is nice with white peach, slight wax, a hint of orange peel and spice. Lovely texture with just a wisp of tannins. Good balance. On the palate, peach and slight almond notes. Good finish. This is a solid version of a "white Bordeaux". Is is drinking well now, but should drink well for five to eight years. Nice on its own, this is very food friendly and worked well with an Eggplant Parmesan.

It northeast Ohio, it can be difficult to grow Cabernet Sauvignon and get it ripe. The spring often limits when budbreak occurs, and cold autumns don't often allow sufficient hang time. In an experiment to deal with this, the North Coast Wine Club, utilized the Appassimento method from northeast Italy, in an attempt to get a bit more volume and alcohol. This means the grapes are allowed to partially air-dry out which reduces volume while raising the sugar levels. it is the way Amarone is made, but in this case, instead of Italian grapes, this wine is made in that method but using Bordea

Made from purchased grapes from an undisclosed location. Light golden in color, clear and bright. The nose is slightly grassy with a touch of lime. Light bodied. Slightly oily texture. On the palate, more about minerality. Clean. Moderate finish. This drinks nicely on its own but better with food. It went well with a Melon Caprese Salad. Drink now.

This is a "Bordeaux Blanc" styles wine from Washington state. It is 69% Sauvignon Blanc and 31% Semillon. Very impressive and a dead ringer for a Bordeaux white in style and quality. Light golden in color. The nose has apples, wax, sweet herbs, minerality and a touch of cedar. Light to medium bodied. Nice texture. On the palate, apples, slight citrus, wax with underlying minerality. Fresh and lively. Good acidity. Long finish. Versatile. This is a blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 14% Syrah, 3% Petite Verdot, 1% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Malbec from Washington State. Deep garnet in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose is nice; dusty with black raspberries, plums, spice, slight black cherries and a hint of vanilla. Soft texture with medium tannins. On the palate, black raspberries, cassis with underlying spice and slight char. Long finish. This is an easy drinking red that has some backbone and depth. Drink over the next five to seven years. This is mostly Merlot with 18% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Cabernet Franc. This is a very accessible and easy to drink wine that has nice ripeness to it. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has cherries, chocolate and a slight char. Medium bodied. On the palate, this is delicious. Easy to drink. Moderate depth. Nice texture. Cassis and black cherries. Nice finish. This drinks great on its own and would work well with foods with a tangy/sweet BBQ sauce. Drink over the next few years.
