2022 Kirkland Signature Ti Point Sauvignon Blanc, New Zealand, Wine Review

We are big fans of Kirkland (Costco) products including their wines. They contract with quality vendors to makes legitimate wines at a fair price. This is no exception. A straight down the middle New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Light gold/green in color. The nose has grapefruits, gooseberry and slight herbal notes. Light to medium bodied. Slightly viscous. On the palate, this is dry but has good bright fruit. Gooseberries and some grapefruits. Good acidity. Long finish. While it is likely most of this is drunk on its own, it will work with lighter foods. A nice choice for a tuna salad. Drink over the next year or two. Great value.

Best New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc

IntoWine.com asked a panel of wine experts for their recommendation for the best New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc: New Zealand took the wine world by storm with its intensely flavored Sauvignon Blancs starting in the 1980s. Sauv Blanc is still the most widely planted grape in Kiwi Country, by a long shot, and there are numerous great examples. My favorite NZ Sauv Blanc from recent vintages is the 2012 Loveblock, the first vintage from Kim and Erica Crawford’s new label. They were the team behind the hugely successful Kim Crawford label, which they sold to Vincor International in 2003 for $8.6 million. The Loveblock is a complex, structured Sauvignon Blanc, with notes of ripe lime, smoke and sweet green chili. You can find it for an average of $18 at U.S. retailers. Another favorite producer is the justly famous Cloudy Bay, which makes both a delicious, balanced, unoaked version, as well as a Sauv Blanc that is reminiscent of a white Bordeaux from a ripe year—the Te Koko, which spends 18 months in French oak. A pretty classic version of a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. For those looking for this, and there are many fans, this is a well priced alternative to many of the standards that have risen in price over the last decade. Light golden in color. The nose has gooseberries or maybe passions fruit (I need to visit a grocery store and compare the two). Slightly oily texture. Tart gooseberries on the palate. A bit metallic on the finish. Sineann is more well known for the Oregon and Washington wines, but they also make this gem in New Zealand. Owner-winemaker Peter Rosback just can't sit still. Screw capped. Silvery/gold in color with a slight copper hue. The nose is tight upon opening but with a bit of air open to show a nice minerality followed by gooseberries. With more air a yellow lemonade note become prominent. This has a lovely oily texture. This was tried from Magnum. A Magnum retails for $15. That is crazy. And, you know what, it's not bad at all. Silvery green in color. The nose has grapefruit and slight crushed shells. On the palate, this is clean with grapefruit notes. Very solid and refreshing not much depth but good energy. Food friendly. Amazing value.
