This is a red blend of 78% Merlot and 22% Petite Verdot from Virginia. It is yet another very good wine from Virginia which is really showing that it can produce world class wines. This is deep garnet in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose is nice with cherries, cranberries, chocolate, gravel and spice. Medium bodied. Medium tannins. Good acidity. On the palate, this is tight at first but opens with air. Flavors of cherries, slight plums, chocolate and spice. There is some depth. Good finish. In terms of style, this is closer to Bordeaux than California. It is nice on its own but better with food. A nice choice with roasted fowl but also a nice plate of pasta would work well. Drink over the next ten years, but if opening soon, a nice three hour decant would help.
