This is made in the country of Georgia from Saperavi grapes grown in the Kindzmarauli Appellation of the Kakheti Region. It is a semi-sweet red wine which have been for thousands of years and are still quite popular there. The cork came out quite easily but the wine seems sound. Ruby in color, clear and bright. The nose has cherries, cinnamon, cigar box, black cherries and cranberries. With air, a clay/minerality emerges. Medium bodied. Slightly viscous. Light tannins. On the palate, this is slightly sweet but not cloying. Flavors of sweet black cherries and slight black raspberries. Smooth finish. This is nice. Different, but nice. Even those tasting who professed not to like sweet wines found it enjoyable. It would work well at the end of a meal as a digestive or with a chocolate, not to sweet dessert. Worth trying for sure.
