2020 Harvey River Bridge Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Geographe Western Australia, Wine Review

This is 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot, 1% Shiraz, and 1% Malbec from Australia (according to the label). Garnet in color, purple at the core, mostly opaque and bright. The nose is nice with cassis, spice and mint. Medium to full bodied. On the palate, black cherries, slight raisins and spice. Medium tannins. This is a pleasant, easy to drink Cabernet for a fair price. It drinks well on its own and will work well with a burger. Drink over the next five years.

This is a reasonably priced Australian 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has black cherries and black raspberries cedar with a streak of mint. Full bodied. On the palate, there are medium tannins, black raspberries, a touch of oak. A bit sweet/ripe. Long finish. This drinks well now and should continue to do so for five to seven years. It will work well on its own and also with wings or ribs (or a burger).

My friend Chris opened this for us. He has had it since release. It had been opened earlier in the day and given air. This is still quite young but with air, it was superb. Purple in color. The nose has cassis, cedar, eucalyptus/mint and slight fresh tobacco. Full bodied. Great texture. On the palate, there is a lot of fruit. The cassis carries thru along with the eucalyptus. Also some coffee and hints of dill. Complex. Great with food. Not at all the kind of wine one thinks about as coming from Australia yet it seems to show its sense of place. Quite a treat. Impressive.

This is a blend of 72% Shiraz, and 28% Cabernet Sauvignon from Australia. Purple in color with some ruby swirls, opaque and bright. The nose has black raspberries, black cherries, black pepper, and slight cedar. Full bodied. On the palate, there is a lot of black raspberry and black cherry fruit. Some alcohol is noticeable. It is very tasty but somewhat one dimensional. A throw-back to the Aussie Shiraz of twenty years ago. Good value if you like this style.

This is one in a series of Tawny "Ports" made by Penfold's. It has very attractive packaging although no longer in the wood box. Made in a Solera style, the minimum blended age is 20 years old. The Solera currently contains vintages from 1960 to 2004. Mostly Shiraz, Cabernet, Grenache and Mourvedre but others as well. Iced tea in color. The nose is a bit oxidized (in a good way) with brown sugar, toffee and crème brulee. On the palate, this is viscous. Lots of caramel notes. Some heat. There is a nice depth to it. Long finish. This will work well on its own or with toffee/carame

This is still one of the poster boys for big, fruity Aussie wines. It can be a love it or hate it wine, but I find, as long as you know what to expect going in, this is a well made and delicious wine. A blend of 71% Shiraz and 29% Cabernet. Inky purple in color, ruby at the rim. The nose has black cherries, black pepper, slight dill (American oak?), and smoke. On the palate, this is rich and full bodied.
