Tasted at the Bach-Hengel Heuriger in Vienna, Austria. Heuriger are sort of like single winery, wine bars. Sort of. Greed/gold in color, clear and bright. Slight nose of minerals and slight pineapple. On the palate, this is refreshing. Some minerality and slight pineapple. A bit of heat on the finish. This is more about having fun, meeting new friends and having some local eats. Drink over the next year or two. It went well with fried vegetables.
This is a trocken (dry) Riesling from Lower Austria. Purchased off the list at Palmen Haus Brasserie in Vienna. Golden in color with green hues, clear and bright. The nose is outstanding. Peaches, slight lemon citrus, a hint of honey and wet rocks. Medium bodied. Crisp. On the palate, it feels like it will be sweet, but it is dry. Peach, apricots with underlying minerality and wet stones. Long finish. Very refreshing on a hot day but quite food friendly. It went very well with a vegan Jackfruit Chili Con Carne Taco if not the traditional food pairing. Drink over the next twenty
Yellow gold in color, clear and bright. The nose is nice and all about the minerality. Medium bodied. Nice acidity. Slightly crisp texture which works well. On the palate, guava and slight pineapple. Good finish. This is drinking well now and should continue for ten to twelve more years. Nice on its own, this will work well with fried foods.
A very different vintage from the generous 2019, this wine shows a lot of concentration and reflects the "premier cru" vineyard. Yellow/golden in color, clear and bright. The nose features spice, minerals but also a bit of tropical fruits/pineapple. Medium bodied. Slightly viscous in texture. On the palate, this is dry and tight, but unwinds in the glass. Lots of minerality, some pineapple, along with slight tannins. Long finish. This drinks well on its own but will work better with food. This would work well with a yellow curry dish. From a "premier cru" vineyard that has the oldest vines used by Schloss Gobelsburg. Green/yellow/gold in color, clear and bright. The wine has some heft to it, even in thinner vintages. It is fuller, "meatier" than the Gaisberg vineyard. Lots of minerals and spice, and some floral notes. Medium to full bodied. Good acidity. On the palate, slight peach, but this is more about minerality and spice. Dry. Long finish. This is delicious now, but really needs a few years to flesh out.
Consumed at Heuriger Hamböck in Krems, Austria. Yellow gold in color, clear and bright. Very tight nose. Some minerality. Moderate acidity. On the palate, slight lemons on the finish. This is fine for sipping outside with some casual food. Inexpensive, the price listed is to consume at the Heuriger. Goes well with lighter foods. Drink now.
