2019 Torrin The Banshee, USA, California, Paso Robles, Willow Creek, Wine Review

This is a blend of 47% Mourvedre, 35% Syrah and 18% Grenache from Paso Robles. While its fun to taste these young, Torrin wines really need ten years to really strut their stuff. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has black raspberries, plums, roasted meats, leather and spice. Full bodied. Medium tannins. Good balance. On the palate, this is delicious. Flavors of black raspberries, plums with spice and char. Long finish. if drinking soon, give this five hours or more of air. Drink over the next fifteen years. Better on its own for now but as it ages this will work with hearty meat or fowl dishes.

This is a blend of 60% Syrah, 30% Grenache and 10% Mourvedre. Torrin wines are bruisers, but at age 13, this one is just starting to calm down a bit. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has black raspberries, black cherries, black pepper, roasted meat and leather. Full bodied. Medium tannins. On the palate, this is delicious. Loads of black raspberries and some plums with underlying char and a nice minerality. Long finish. This should drink well for another ten to fifteen years. It is nice on its own and would work well with a beef stew.

Another stunning wine from Torrin. Still a bit young but starting to show some development especially with a few hours in a decanter. This is 50% Syrah, 26% Mourvèdre and 24% Grenache. Inky purple in color. The nose is great with a meatiness reminiscent of the northern Rhone but vibrant fruit that says California sunshine. There is also some black pepper, plums and slight floral notes. On the palate, this has a great texture. Black raspberry fruit intertwines with black pepper over a smoke and earth base. This is a GSM blend from California. Torrin makes great wines. They are huge and really should go seven to ten years from vintage prior to opening, but it depends on how you like 'em. It is a blend of 40% Syrah, 33% Mourvedre, and 27% Grenache. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is great with black raspberries, boysenberries, plums, black cherries, char, black pepper and spice. Full bodied. A bit of black licorice with air. Medium tannins. On the palate, this is dense. Slight alcohol noticeable but that smooths out with about an hour of air. Lois of black and blue

This is a blend of 60% Syrah, 22% Mourvedre, and 18% Grenache from Torrin Vineyard. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has black raspberries, black pepper, some black olives and smoke. Full bodied. Great, rich texture. Nice balance. On the palate, this is still youthful but starting to open a bit. Black raspberries, plums, black cherries with underlying scorched earth. Long finish. Delicious. This may still improve but it will make great drinking for another ten to twelve years. Great on its own, this will work well with braised meats or roasted vegetables.

This is a blend of 48% Syrah, 32% Grenache, and 20% Mourvedre. Still young, this is really starting to sing. Purple, opaque and shimmering bright. The nose is great with black raspberries, plums, some black cherries, spice, black pepper and roasted meats. Full bodied. On the palate, this is delicious. Lots of black raspberry and black cherry fruit. Lovely texture. Deep but tight layers. Lots of energy. Long finish. This should drink well for the next ten to twelve years. Great on its own, this will work well with spicy foods off the grill such as wings or ribs.
