2019 Konyari Páva, Hungary, Balaton, Wine Review

This is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The label list 15% abv. Purple in color, garnet at the rim, opaque and bright. The nose is nice with cassis, black cherries, spice and slight cigar box. Full bodied. Medium to firm tannins. On the palate, cassis and black cherries with some underlying spice. Very ripe for Hungary. Quite delicious. Enough acidity to work at the dinner table, it also drinks great on its own. This needs strong flavors to stand up to it. Pörkölt (Meat stew) would be a nice choice. Drink over the next ten years.

All of Sauska's blends are named after prime numbers as a testament to their uniqueness. The lower the number, the better the wine. This one is a blend of 45% Cabernet Franc, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 21% Merlot. It is aged 4 months in used French oak and two months is bottle prior to release. Ruby in color with purple swirls, mostly clear and bright. The nose has cherries, tobacco, plums and black pepper. 14% ABV. Medium bodied. On the palate, the cherries come thru along with the black pepper and slight tobacco underneath. Nice balance. Smooth and easy drinking. Mild tannins.

This is the flagship wine of one of Hungary's leading wineries. It is a blend of 50% Cabernet Franc; 40% Merlot; 10% Cabernet Sauvignon with the grapes coming from the Csillagvölgy, Konkoly, Kopár, and Ördögárok vineyards. Purple in color, opaque but a bit cloudy. The nose is nice with dust, spice and cherries. Full bodied. Medium tannins. On the palate, this is deep and complex. This is a nice, solid Cabernet Franc from Hungary. Varietally correct and fairly priced. Deep garnet in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose has black cherries, tobacco, green bell pepper and spice. Medium bodied. Medium tannins. On the palate, black cherries with some tobacco and a slight green note. Good finish. This is nice on its own but better with food. A nice wine to pair with stuffed pepper. Drink over the next few years.
