2018 Mélanie Pfister Riesling Berg, France, Alsace, Wine Review

A new winery for me. Light golden in color with some silvery hues, clear and bright. The nose is tight (cold) with air some minerality and light lemons come thru. It has a viscous texture. On the palate, there is some sweetness to it (no idea what the residual sugar level is) but it is easily balanced by the bracing acidity. 13% ABV. Plenty of lemon fruit with slight apples. The lemony finish goes on forever. This is really interesting and it would be hard to guess where it is from as it is quite unique. It is drinking great now and will no doubt mature and morph but should drink well for fifteen or more years. It is very food friendly, but the would be great with shell fish.

This is the first vintage that Trimbach made a wine from this vineyard. Light golden in color. Great nose. There is a bit of orange peel along with minerals and a salinity on the nose. It is big right from the start. The palate takes a bit of air to get going. A relatively viscous texture. The wine is dry. Tight peaches eventually show more expressive peach along with minerals (crushed limestone). There is some warmth on the wine. Nevertheless, it worked great with food especially a Goat Cheese Tart (superb). Still young, it is drinking well now, but should continue to improve fo

This is a wonderful Riesling made in the Alsace region of France. It is a distinct style that is different from neighboring Germany. In Alsace it can be hard to tell if a wine is dry or sweet. This one is dry. It is young and needs more time, but even so, it provides a lot of pleasure today. Light golden in color, clear and bright. The nose has minerals, orange peel and slight peach. On the palate, this is full bodied and slightly viscous. Delicious. Notes of orange peel and peaches carry thru along with a hint of ginger over a mineral base. One of my favorite Alsatian wineries and my favorite bottling of theirs. This vintage is no exception. Light yellow god in color, but also quite intense. On the nose, this is pretty with peaches, baking spice and a nice minerality. On the palate, this is just slightly sweet. A bit viscous. The peaches carry thru but also also a steely quality. Consumed over two nights, it was better on the second night. More complex and deep, but still very lively and little oxidation. Long finish. This should continue to improve for the next seven to ten years and be good for ten to fifteen after
