Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is nice with cassis, cedar, camphor and leather. Full bodied. Firm tannins. On the palate, plenty of cassis with some char. Lots of depth. Complex if still tight. Nice finish. This is drinking well now and should continue to for another ten to twelve years. It might improve a bit more as it ages. Nice on its own, this would work well with grilled meats.
Its amazing that this wine doesn't get more buzz. Most of that is because it has been around for so long and great, that people talk about the "newer" wines on the block. Although expensive, this wine competes with lots of the "cult" wines that are three or five times the cost. Of course, this is still young and if drinking soon, a five hour decant is not a bad idea. A classic Napa Bordeaux blend with 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot, 5% Malbec and 1% Cabernet Franc. Purple in color with ruby swirls. Shimmering bright and opaque. The nose is complex and great. Cassis, black cherries, earthy, hay, char and slight milk chocolate. Medium to full bodied. Slightly sinewy texture. Firm tannins. On the palate, black cherries cassis, carob, with a touch of eucalyptus on the long finish. This is still young and a few more years in the cellar ought to up the score by a couple points. Opened to celebrate my 63rd birthday. Pop and pour and consumed over several hours. This is 87% Cabernet Sauvignon with the rest made up of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
