2017 Urban Vintner Sauvignon Blanc, USA, Ohio, Wine Review

This winery is located just east of Cleveland Ohio. They purchase grapes from around the world and craft wines. Most wines are sold locally or at their tasting room. These grapes are from Clear Lake in Lake County, California. Light silvery/gold in color. The nose is a bit grassy with a slight melon note. A nice slightly oily texture. On the palate, this is light. Some melon notes. It's a bit flat but overall an easy, clean wine with no faults. This should be a popular wine at the tasting room on a Friday summer night.

This winery buys juice around the country and then makes the wine in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. This version was 2017 juice but the wines are not labelled with a vintage. There is a wide range of quality and styles in these wines and some of them a very nice. All of them are fun. Back in the days before Prohibition, the wines from the Lake Erie Islands far outsold the wines from Sonoma. Peruse and older text and you will see that these islands produced some of the top wines this country produced. Nowadays, the islands mostly serve as a summer weekend destination for fun and cheap beer, but there is still some wine being made in the area. Made from purchased grapes from an undisclosed location. Light golden in color, clear and bright. The nose is slightly grassy with a touch of lime. Light bodied. Slightly oily texture. On the palate, more about minerality. Clean. Moderate finish. This drinks nicely on its own but better with food. It went well with a Melon Caprese Salad. Drink now.

From Washington state, this comes in at 13.2%abv. Green/gold in color, clear and bright. The nose is nice with lemon/lime, minerality and a touch of grassiness. Medium bodied with a nice, slightly oily texture. Good acidity. On the palate, limes with a slight gooseberry note and underlying minerality. Long finish. Overall, a very nice Sauvignon Blanc for a very fair price. This is lovely on its own and will work nicely with lighter foods. A great choice with a fruit salad for lunch.

This is made with purchased grapes in northeast Ohio. It is their version off a white Bordeaux and features a 75/25 mix of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. Light golden in color, clear and bright. The nose is nice with white peach, slight wax, a hint of orange peel and spice. Lovely texture with just a wisp of tannins. Good balance. On the palate, peach and slight almond notes. Good finish. This is a solid version of a "white Bordeaux". Is is drinking well now, but should drink well for five to eight years. Nice on its own, this is very food friendly and worked well with an Eggplant
