This is a blend of Howell Mountain (70%) and Mt. Veeder (30%) grapes with Cabernet Franc (52%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (38%) and the rest Malbec, Petite Verdot and Merlot. The team at Dagmar are negociants for California wines. Garnet in color with purple swirls, mostly clear and bright. The nose has black cherries, tobacco, dust and slight sage notes. Long finish. This is drinking well now and should drink well for another seven to ten years. It works well on its own and would work well with hearty foods such as lamb stew.

Somehow, they straddle the line between old and new, corporate yet having a sense of place, and making a wine that is affordable and good value for the quality. Realm is one of our favorite wineries and The Bard may be our favorite (so hard to choose) especially considering price. This is an expensive wine, but for the quality, this is a great wine. It is a Cabernet based blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot, and 2% Petite Sirah . Purple in color, ruby at the rim, opaque and bright. This is a blend of 53% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Petit Verdot. It is a delicious wine that is another label different from their Cabernet Sauvignon. Purple in color with some ruby swirls, mostly opaque and bright. The nose has black cherries, dark chocolate, cassis, plums, cedar and baking spices. Full bodied. On the palate, lots of black cherry fruit with some purple fruit over char and spice. Firm tannins. Good energy. Nice finish. This is the flagship wine from Justin. It is a Bordeaux styled blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc and 7% Merlot. it sees 100% new French oak. This is a very nice wine that is pretty unique given the number of similarly proportioned wines in France, Napa and the rest of the world. It has a deeper ruby color with some purple swirls, mostly opaque and bright. The nose has black currants, some black cherries with a bit of baking spice and slight dark chocolate notes. This is a blend of 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot and 31% Cabernet Franc from Howell Mountain in Napa. Inky purple in color, ruby rim, opaque and bright. The nose has cassis, black cherries, blueberries, tobacco, chocolate and spice. Full bodied. Firm tannins. Great energy. On the palate, this is very concentrated.
