This is a collaboration between Manfred Krankl (of California's Sine Qua Non winery) and the Maurel Brothers (of Clos Saint Jean in Chateauneuf du Pape, France). It is only bottled in Magnums and the 2016 is a blend of 93% Mourvèdre, 5% Grenache, and % Grenache Blanc. Inky purple in color, opaque and shimmering bright. The nose is huge with plums, black cherries, spices, black raspberries, floral notes and slight earthiness. Full bodied. Medium tannins. Great texture. On the palate, this is a big wine but not over blown. Flavors of black cherries, black raspberries, some plum, char and spice. Deep and complex. It is very young and should continue to mature although it is so good now, it might not get any better. This is great on its own and will work with big food dishes. It would work well with Couscous with vegetables but also a Beef Stew. Drink over the next twenty to twenty-five years.
