A nice showing for this 2014. Given that, it is probably worth checking out the 2015 or 2016. This retails for around $25. Purple in color, ruby at the rim. The nose has plums along with some dusty tobacco. Also a very interesting saline feature. On the palate, this is very tannic. Black cherry fruit with a bit of earthiness. Good balance. Nice finish. Everything you could want in a value Bordeaux.
Another wine to turn to when looking for value in top vintages of Bordeaux. Purple in color, ruby at the rim, opaque and bright. The nose is nice with cassis and plums and slight leather and char. Medium to full bodied. On the palate, this is firm tannins. A velvety texture. Lots of cassis fruit with underlying leather and slight char. Good acidity. Nice finish. This needs another five to eight years to approach maturity and should drink well for ten to fifteen after that. This will work well with grilled or roasted meats (or vegetables).
This is one of my long time go-to wines for value in Bordeaux. And this vintage is no exception. Purple in color, ruby at the rim. The nose is dusty with cassis and a bit of clean earthiness. On the palate, this has a nice depth. Light tannins. Not a ton of complexity, but that might improve with age. In the meantime, it has nice cassis fruit with some earthiness and good acidity. Nice finish. This may improve slightly, but based on prior vintages, this should continue to drink well for another fifteen to twenty years. A nice match for chili or stew.
Always a great value in Bordeaux and especially a nice option in the best years as this is ready to drink sooner than the "big boys". A blend of 45% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. Purple in color, ruby at the rim, opaque and bright. The nose is nice with black cherries, cassis, tobacco and black pepper. Medium bodied. Light tannins. On the palate, cassis and cherry fruit with slight chocolate and a bit of char. Good acidity. This is a producer that I am not familiar with although I believe they still produce wine today. That said, this was a very good showing for a 41 year old Medoc wine. Purple/ruby/brown in color, mostly opaque and flat. The nose is nice; earthy with black cherry fruit. Medium bodied. Good balance. On the palate, the fruit seems ripe/sweet. Cherries, slight tobacco notes. Deep-ish complexity. Moderate finish. This worked well with a Truffle Risotto.
This is a great example of why to buy inexpensive Bordeaux in great vintages. This was $12,50 on release. I bought a bunch and this was the last bottle (I think). it was quite enjoyable. Is it amazing and complex? No, but at age 15, it was delicious, and pleasurable. Purple in color, ruby at the rim. The nose has cherries, slight dried cherries and a bit of baking spices and tobacco.
