Purple in color. This is a GSM blend. The nose has jammy black cherries and cherries. Spice and slight roasted notes. On the palate, this is jammy fruit. Dark cherries and cherries with a peppery note. Some depth. A very good wine that seems like it will be better drunk in the next five years.
This is a blend of 40% Mourvèdre, 34% Grenache, and 26% Syrah. It is a big wine that is ripe and delicious. The nose has black raspberries, blue berries, roasted meat and herbs, black pepper and some cherries. On the palate, this is big. Firm tannins. Juicy black raspberry and blueberry fruit with an underlying minerality. It softens a bit in the glass. It is great on its own but a difficult food match at present. It will most certainly evolve and gain integration over the next five to ten years at which time it will be great with cassoulets and roasted foods. No regrets about open
A blend of 43% Grenache, 29% Mourvedre, 18% Syrah and 10% Counoise. This wine is still on the young side but is open and with a bit of air, was drinking great. Inky purple in color. The nose has black raspberries, slight charred wood, black pepper, roasted herbs and roasted meats. On the palate, what a wonderful texture. Almost seamless. Juicy black raspberry fruit. Underlying char and roasted meats. Great energy and balance. This will continue to mature for the next five to ten years and be good for ten to fifteen after that. This is a GSM blend of 70/10/20. Still young, it needs some time, especially for the Syrah and Mourvedre to come out. Ruby in color, slightly cloudy. The nose has black cherries and baking spices. On the palate, this is more raspberries but the baking spice are present. Smooth and easy drinking but also some depth. Medium bodied. Good acidity. Needs a few years and should have a decade more. Will work on its own and worked great with a stuffed eggplant dish but roasted foods in general.
Ulises Valvez was one of the great American success stories in the wine world. An immigrant to this country, he built his vineyard and winery into a top notch winery. Sadly, he passed away a couple of years ago at far too young of an age. His winery carries on. This is a Zinfandel blend that also has 17% Peite Sirah and 5% Grenache. The vineyard was originally planted in 1888 and hand farmed by Ulises Valdez since 1988. There are some very old vines. Purple in color.
