This is drinking well right now. Deep ruby in color, clear and bright. The nose is great with cherries, sandalwood, dried cherries and slight anise. On the palate, this is medium bodied. The cherries carry thru with an underlying minerality. Nice acidity. Long finish. This drinks better with food and went well with home grilled pizza. It should be consumed over the next five to seven years.
This was drinking quite well although it has years left. Purple in color, ruby at the rim. The nose is very nice with black cherries, cedar, chocolate and cigar box. On the palate, this is youthful but ageing well. Layers of cherries, black cherries and tobacco. A nice back bone of acidity. Good finish. This can be drunk along but shines with food. Obviously Italian food but really a wide variety. Probably about 5 years from peak and should be there for 8 to 10.
Purple in color, mostly opaque and flat. The nose is classic older BDM. Black cherries, cherries, dust, tea leaves and dirt. Still firm tannins. Good acidity. On the palate, black cherries with cigar/ash and some forest floor. Very smooth texture. Long finish. At or just past peak but drinking quite well. Drink over the next few years. Great on its own, this would be better with food. Pasta with a Bolognaise sauce would be good match.
Cantina di Montalcino is the only cooperative in the Brunello DOCG. It has just under 100 members who are for the most part, small vineyard owners. This is an excellent wine and don't be afraid of buying from a co-op. The vintage, 2017, was hot and dry, and the wines produced were more generous and flashy than a more typical vintage.
