Purple in color, ruby at the rim. The nose is nice with cherries, cassis and chocolate. Also some dustiness. On the palate, this is very elegant. Not the big fruit bomb I was expecting. Cassis, layered with chocolate and char. Great texture. Nice balance. Good finish. Will work with a wide variety of foods. Seems to still be youthful. There might be some upside but it is delicious now.
One of the stalwarts of Napa cabs since the early 90's. Purple in color. The nose is great with cassis, some graphite, spice and char. On the palate, this is slightly sweet jammy fruit but also has depth and tight complexity. Firm tannins. It is delicious but not giving up a lot of the complexity that it will have. Cassis and black cherry fruit along with fresh cut lumber and char. No doubt this is all to be expected and needs at least five years to calm down and sort itslef out and should be a gorgeous wine. We shared this bottle with Rob Greer over a recent lunch in Napa and then finished it up at dinner giving it a lot more time to breathe. For those on the mailing list, this is the current release. The vineyard is in a spectacular location across the street and down the hill a bit from Scarecrow. A very pretty property. Scarecrow is one of the best wines in the world. It is always a pleasure to be able to share some with friends! This bottle did not disappoint. It is not a fruit bomb but there is plenty of fruit. This bottle is still young with some upside but drinking great today. Inky purple with a thin ruby band at the rim. The nose is great with cassis, violets, spice and minerality. On the palate, this has light tannins but persistent. Intense cassis on the palate with underlying charred earth and a bit of dark chocolate. Layers of fruit and earth. Long finish. Great balance.
