Deep ruby in color with some purple swirls. The nose has some cherry fruit with a bit of spice. Medium bodied. On the palate, cherries. This is clean, simple and probably a bit past its prime. Still drinking well though. Drink up in the next few years.
There are not a lot of great producers of Grenache in California, but there are a few who excel and at the top is Manfred Krankl and his Sine Qua Non wines. At age 13, this is just hitting its stride and just outstanding. A blend of 82% Grenache, 14% Syrah, 2% Viognier and 2% Roussanne. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is great with black cherries, black raspberries, roasted meats and spices. Full bodied. 15.8% abv but no heat. On the palate, black cherries with some black raspberries over a bit of char. A blend of 57% Mourvèdre, 29% Grenache and 14% Syrah. Deeper ruby in color, purple at the core. The nose has black cherries, cherries, some floral notes, black pepper and spice. On the palate, this is medium bodied. Black cherry fruit with some black raspberries over a slight char and a slight dried lavender note. Good balance. Lots of energy. Good finish. This is drinking well now and while it might not get better it should morph a bit darker with age. It will work well with stews and casseroles. It should drink well for the next seven to ten years.
The is 100% Grenache from California's Central Coast. Deep ruby in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose is nice with black cherries, cherries, herbal notes and moist forest floor. Medium bodied. On the palate, nice black cherry and cherry fruit with underlying earthiness. Seems to be fully mature and at peak. Tannins all resolved. Nice finish. This is a food friendly wine that went well with Pasta Primavera with summer vegetables. Drink over the next few years.
This is a blend of 75% Grenache, 11% Mourvèdre, 11% Syrah, and 3% Roussanne. One of the best Grenache wines from California. This is concentrated and intense, but not over the top. Deep garnet in color, opaque and bright. The nose is great with black cherries, spice, game meats and roasted herbs. Full bodied. Medium tannins. On the palate, this is delicious. Black cherries, some black raspberries, roasted herbs and slight beef notes. Long finish. Almost seamless texture. This is drinking well but will no doubt improve over the next couple of years.
