This is a blend of 66% Whitehawk Syrah in Santa Barbara, 32% Alder Springs Syrah in Mendocino and 2% Catie's Corner Viognier (co-fermented) in Russian River Valley.  It was our first vintage (yes, I am one of the co-owners of this winery).  14.2%abv. At age 15, it is even better than my lofty expectations on release.  we did have an issue at bottling as the wrong bottles were shipped and it seems many of the corks including this one were stained half way up, but the seal held and it did not leak.  Purple in color, opaque and bright.  The nose is great and clearly shows a sense of California.  Black raspberries, slight black olives, violets, roasted herbs and some grilled meats.  Full bodied.  Still with medium tannins.  A gorgeous silky texture.  Good balance.  On the palate, this is delicious.  Not a huge wine (especially for the style back in 2009) but not elegant either.  Drinking well and while probably at peak, not past it either.  It should easily go another five and maybe more if well stored.  Back in 2011, when we first tried it, we commented "it doesn't suck".  Well, it still doesn't.  Quite pleased.
