2009 Sineann Cabernet Sauvignon Baby Poux Vineyard, USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Wine Review

This is one of the best values in Washington Wine. From what used to be young vines in the Champoux Vineyard, these vines are no longer young. Purple in color, ruby at the rim. The nose has cassis, plums and black cherries with spice and slight char. Full bodied. On the palate, this is getting closer to peak. Great fruits (Cassis and black cherries) with underlying scorched earth. Complex, it unwinds in the glass. Nice finish. No hurry on this, it should drink great for the next ten to twelve years. It drinks nicely on its own but will work better with food. Roast Turkey would work well.

Wow. What a showing. The grapes for this come from a "young" block in the Champoux vineyard. Of course, they were not really that young in 2008. And the best few barrels of this were bottles separately as a "Reserve". This may be the best Washington Cabernet I have had. Period. OK, let's get this part out of the way. I know the producer - Peter Rosback. We have been friends for over 40 years since our college days, but I don't believe that influenced this review. This is a great value in Washington Cabs. When it was first being made, this was from younger vines in the Champoux Vineyard, hence the name. Now the vines have a bit of age to them and the resultant wine shows more depth and complexity. Purple in color. The nose has cassis, boysenberries, spice, slight char and coffee. On the palate, this has nice layers of cassis, char and earth. Wonderful texture. Light tannins. Good finish. This may still improve a bit but either way, it should drink well for another ten to fifteen years. It will go well with a steak or roast.

The names stems from the original release of this wine back in the mid-90's. The vines used were from one of the younger blocks in the famous Champoux vineyard. Now the vines are over twenty years old and this wine is from the best barrels of the wine. An excellent value in Washington state Cabernet. Ruby in color, clear and bright. From the younger vines in the Champoux vinyard, hence the name (although the vines are around 30 by this time). A delicious Washington state Cab from an Oregon producer. Purple in color. The nose has cassis, slight bell pepper (in a good way), leather and spice. On the palate, this is full bodied and bold. Firm tannins. Deep but tightly wound. Lots of cassis and black cherry fruit. Nice finish. This needs some time and should peak in another ten years or so. There is some upside.

This is a great value in Washington Cab. Originally from younger vines in the Champoux vineyard, these wine have been made for 20+ years now. Purple in color, ruby at the rim. The nose has cassis, sandalwood, slight bell pepper. On the palate, this has nice cassis fruit with an underlying char. Full bodied. A nice complexity, it takes some time (about an hour) to fully open up. Firm tannins. Juicy acidity. In style, this is somewhere less ripe than Napa and more than Bordeaux. It easily has a decade or more left. Works great on its own or with bigger foods.
