Another great wine from winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown. Inky purple in color, ruby at the rim, opaque and bright. The nose has cassis, cedar, leather, char and black olives. Full bodied. Light tannins. On the palate, there is cassis, spice, cedar and some warmth. Long finish. This is about at peak but should drink well for another ten to twelve more years. It is great on its own and will work well with roast beef.
This is a blend of 41% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, and 25% Cabernet Franc made by Thomas Rivers Brown. Pop and pour, this took about twenty minutes to start opening and then drink very well. Purple in color with a ruby rim, opaque and bright. The nose is nice with cherries, black cherries, baking spice, slight chocolate, a hint of iron and roasted herbs. Full bodied although certainly not over the top. Rich texture. On the palate, this has firm tannins that integrate somewhat with air. Nots of cherries and black cherries with some underlying tobacco and a bit of chocolate. Som
Another great Thomas Rivers Brown cabernet. This is their basic Cabernet which has unfortunately gone up in price recently. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has cassis, cedar, with nice minerality. Medium to firm tannins. Nice balance. On the palate, this is concentrated with cassis, some black cherries, spice and char. Long finish. This is still youthful but drinking well. Drink over the next ten to fifteen years. Great on its own, this is in a great place to take to a steak house.
Outpost wines are made by Thomas Rivers Brown, a sensational winemaker. They are made up on Howell Mountain from mountain fruit and are very intense yet also generous. This one is of course young, but delicious. Consumed over two days, it was just as good on either day if different. Purple in color. The nose has cassis, graphite, blueberries and slight spice. On the palate, this is concentrated and intense. Firm tannins. Cassis and blueberry fruit with some spice. Really delicious. On Day 2, some leather notes emerge.
