2007 Perrier-Jouët Champagne Belle Epoque, France, Wine Review

This is a blend of 50% Chardonnay. 45% Pinot Noir, and 5% Pinot Munier. This is their prestige cuvee in the attractive, hand painted bottle. Go0lden in color with a steady stream of small bubbles. The nose is nice with toast, slight lemon and maybe a hint of peach. Crisp acidity. On the palate, lemons with some toast. Long finish. Very tasty and very food friendly, it will work with just about any food. Still fresh and vibrant, drink over the next seven to ten years.

This is a lovely Champagne and a nice way to celebrate with friends and start an evening. Pale yellow gold in color. It has a nice mousse with lots of tiny bubbles. On the nose, there is lemons and seltzer water. On the palate, this has lemon candy. nice acidity. Slightly sweet on the finish. Some depth. This is a recent release. It is very food friendly and also drinks well on its own.

Consumed on a Celebrity Cruise Ship (Alaska) wine tasting. A blend of 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay. Pale golden with some green hues and a steady stream of tiny bobbles. The nose is interesting with toast and limes. Perhaps a slight bit of oxidation. On the palate, this is somewhat demur but had plenty of stuffing. On the palate, more about minerality with slight pear and a bit of chalk. An interesting bitter almond note on the finish. Good acidity. This is drinking maturely but nice right now. Light golden in color. The nose is nice with minerals, baked bread, slight chalk and red apples. On the palate, this is refreshing. Good acidity. Not much fruit but nice minerality and chalk. Good depth. It drinks easy. Worked with a wide variety of foods. Retail is around $40 which is fair value.

This was Magnum 94/200. A friend's daughter was awarded this bottle from her employer, and she presented it to him for his 60th birthday which was generously shared with his friends. Amazing wine. Silvery gold in color, a steady stream of tiny bubbles, clear and bright. The nose is big with toast, Meyer Lemons, chalk and a hint of ginger. Full bodied. On the palate, this is so smooth, yet so crisp. Flavors of green apples, orange peel, minerals and some toast. So complex and deep. Incredibly long finish. This is the best DP since at least 1996. From the excellent 2008 vintage. This is 60% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir and,10% Pinot Munier. Light golden in color, clear and bright. A fair amount of tiny bubbles. The nose has apples, slight cider notes, and a touch of chalk. Medium bodied. Good acidity. The fruit is ripe which comes off a bit sweet but that calms down with air. Nice apple fruit. Solid finish. This is drinking quite well now and should continue to do so for the next decade. It went well with a varied menu from Shishido peppers and garlic to sharp Cheddar.
