2006 Dom Pérignon Champagne, France, Wine Review

Green/gold in color with a steady stream of tiny bubbles. Thick mousse. On the nose there is a touch of ginger along with green apples, some brioche and very slight nutty notes. Also a touch of seltzer water. Full bodied. Great balance. Lots of energy. On the palate, this is complex and deep as well as delicious. Flavors of green apples with a very slight oxidation/nuttiness. Long finish. This is very food friendly and will match anything from popcorn to a steak. Great with various cheeses. It is already nineteen years old and just starting to show some age, it should easxily go another decade for well store bottles.

It is amazing how much wine Moet can make and be so amazingly consistent. Of course, Dom Perignon, is at the top of their heap. Light gold with slight silver in color. A steady stream of tiny bubbles form a nice mousse. The nose is nice with slight toast and a sort of lemon/tangerine quality that is really nice. Very clean. On the palate, that lemon/tangerine quality continues with a nice dose of carbonation. Incredibly smooth and easy yet with depth and also precision. Long finish. Probably not the greatest ever vintage of DP but still excellent. Drinking quite well at the moment

This was Magnum 94/200. A friend's daughter was awarded this bottle from her employer, and she presented it to him for his 60th birthday which was generously shared with his friends. Amazing wine. Silvery gold in color, a steady stream of tiny bubbles, clear and bright. The nose is big with toast, Meyer Lemons, chalk and a hint of ginger. Full bodied. On the palate, this is so smooth, yet so crisp. Flavors of green apples, orange peel, minerals and some toast. So complex and deep. Incredibly long finish. This is the best DP since at least 1996. A phenomenal wine in a phenomenal vintage. Dom really nailed it in 2008. Light green/gold in color with lots of tiny bubbles. The nose has lemons, brioche, and slight smoke. On the palate, this is seamless. Smooth. Tart lemons, chalk and crushed rocks. A very long finish. Delicious and deep. This is still young with lots of energy. It should drink like this for another ten years before starting to mature for another twenty to thirty after that. It will work with virtually any food. An incredible wine.

This is one of the better vintages of Dom Perignon. It is truly amazing to make a wine of this quality at the amount of quantity they make. Drink alongside some other 2008 heavyweights, and this more than held its own. Light golden in color with a touch of green, clear and bright. Lovely mousse with lots of small bubbles. The nose has brioche, lemons and smoke. Very big and powerful. On the palate, tart lemons over a nice minerality. Great mouthfeel. So smooth and easy to drink. Yet, deep and complex. 2008 is a great vintage for Champagne. This is the first Dom I have tasted from that vintage. Outstanding and also a bit unique. Light golden in color with a very nice mousse of tiny bubbles. On the nose, this has a a nice meyer lemon note along with an ever so slight nuttiness and a bit of smoke. It opens slowly with air and never is a big nose at this point but does show bit of ginger root. On the palate, this is excellent if still young. Apple cider, fresh green apples, slight toast all mix together. But what is really fun is the tension in the wine. This is one of the liveliest
