Tasted blind, I guessed 2004 Bordeaux (St. Julien). This is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc. Purple in color, showing some age but not really browning. Clear and a bit flat. On the nose, cassis, slight funk, a bit of cigar box and slight char. Complex but not boisterous. Full bodied. Firmer tannins. On the palate, cassis with some tobacco notes and a bit of earthiness. Good finish. This is drinking well but perhaps a bit past prime. Still, this should have another five years or so left before it really moves into its decline. Better with food. Roasted meats would work well.
