Purple in color with some ruby hues and ruby at the rim. Mostly opaque if a bit flat. The nose has some funk on it (more than just bottle age) along with cassis and leather. Full bodied. On the palate, sweet cassis fruit with underlying earthiness. Mature but still offering up a lot. Nice finish. This is probably better with some food at this point. Goulash would work well. Drink over the next few years.
Of course, this is the "It" wine right now as it was just named the Wine Spectator Wine of the Year. It proved to be love or hate at a recent tasting with many rating it as their favorite and a few putting it closer to the bottom. Of course, even the later voters thought it was a fine wine overall. This is a nice solid Napa Cabernet that often shows up on restaurant lists. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has cassis, coffee, slight chocolate and a slight herbal note. Full bodied. Medium tannins. On the palate, lots of cassis, some chocolate and just a hint of spice. Nice finish. This drinks nicely on its own and will work great with a steak or burger. Drink over the next five to eight years.
This is an easy drinking Napa Cabernet. Purple in color with some garnet swirls, opaque and bright. The nose is nice with cassis, black cherries, roasted herbs and a hint of cedar. Full bodied. Light tannins. On the palate, the black cherries move to the forefront. Nice texture. Some depth. Clean. Moderate acidity. Solid finish. This is drinking well right now and will work on its own or with food. It went well with potato filled pierogis. Drink over the next five to eight years.
A really nice showing for this wine and above my high expectations. It is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Malbec, and 5% Petit Verdot. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has cassis, cedar, plums, graphite and char. On the palate, this is full bodied with medium tannins. Lots of cassis fruit intertwined with char and oak. Good length on the finish. This is still on the young side of mature but drinks like a classic Napa Cabernet. That is great fruit with some oak and plenty of depth.
