Garnet in color with just a hint of browning, mostly clear and bright. The nose is classic (and nice) with caramel, cassis, dried cranberries, slight dill, slight tobacco, and cedar. Medium to full bodied. Wispy tannins. Great balance. On the palate, flavors of fresh and dried cherries and black cherries with a slight earthiness and slighter char. Complex and deep. Long finish. The label lists 13.2% abv. This is lovely on its own but would better with food. Slow braised meats and/or Root vegetables would work well. Any bottle at age 40 is a crap shoot, but this one delivered well.
