Wow.  This had been purchased from a distributor maybe 40 years ago and well stored since.  Garnet in color, cloudy and a bit flat.  Partially opaque.  The nose is gorgeous.  Aromas of black cherries, sweet cherries, leather, tobacco, herbal notes, slight char and a touch of mint.  The kind of nose one could keep sniffing all night long.  Light tannins.  Medium to full bodied.  Great acidity.  On the palate, this is complex and deep.  So much going on at age 77.  Flavors of cherries, slight cranberries, a bit of salinity, slight herbal notes and just a hint of black raspberries on the long finish.  Hard to believe a wine this good is as old as it is.  It would work with food but it was great on its own with a bit of cheese.  A very speccial treat to get to try it.
