J Vineyards 2019 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley

October 19th, 2021 By Michael Cervin
# Wine Recommendations, Wine Producers, Growers, & Labels, Pinot Noir

For over three decades J has been producing an amazing number of wines, most notably their sparkling wines. Sometimes overlooked are their still wines, like this terrific Pinot. Comprised of over 40 smaller lots of Pinot Noir. Then blended, this is really a wine that showcases al of the Russian River Valley. It offers bright and lively black cherry, blackberry, blueberry, boysenberry, plum and huckleberry, all conspiring to bring fresh bright fruit flavors to the glass. There are back notes of pomegranate, slight leather, cocoa powder and youthful but firm tannins. This is a thoroughly enjoyable wine to drink.

ORIGIN: Russian River Valley, Sonoma

Top Sonoma Pinot Noir

September 25th, 2010Written by Nancy Parode
California's Sonoma County has a near-perfect climate for growing cool-weather grapes. Fog banks that creep over the hillsides from the Pacific Ocean and relatively cloudy weather during key months (Californians call it "June Gloom") make many parts of Sonoma an ideal place to plant pinot noir and chardonnay.

Top California Pinot Noir: Which California Wine Producers Make the Best Pinot Noir?

July 29th, 2015Written by Loren Sonkin
California has actually been making outstanding wines from the Pinot Noir grape for a long time. Sure, not long in the Burgundian sense but going back at least to the middle of the last century there were good bottles of Pinot Noir being produced in California. Not many to be sure, but there were some. Starting slowly, in the 1990’s, and then exploding when the movie Sideways came out, there are now more and more offerings of good to excellent Pinot Noir being produced in California.
