2003 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Rosé Brut, France, Wine Review

Vintage:
2003
Score:
94
Grade:
A

Pink/orange in color, clear and bright with a lovely mousse of tiny bubbles.  The nose is pretty with strawberries.  Medium to full bodied.  On the palate, this is starting to show some age but also has enough acidity to keep things lively.  Cherries, some cranberries and slight grapefruit notes.  Very deep.  Long finish.  This is delicious but also complex.  It will evolve into a mature Champagne so drink soon unless that is good with your tastes.  If so, it has another ten to fifteen years.  Very food friendly, it would be great with roasted duck.

Probably my favorite vintage of this wine and with the escalating prices, who knows if I will get to try another one.  Light golden in color, clear with a nice mousse of lots of tiny bubbles.  The nose is clean with toast, slight lemons, and minerality.  It is tight to start but opens quickly.  Full bodied.  Crisp acidity.  On the palate, there is some lemon, lemon peel, and minerality.  Deep and complex.  Concentrated.  Long finish.  This is still showing very young, but delicious.  It should have no problem going another twenty years if well stored.  It will work wonderfully on its own, a

This is the first vintage in which the grapes for this were made using biodynamic and organic principles.  Just a gorgeous wine.  Medium golden in color, clear and bright with a nice mousse of thick, tiny bubbles.  The nose is deep with slight toast, green apples, slight lemon curd and minerality.  Full bodied.  Lots of energy.  Great balance.  On the palate, this is showing youthfully.  Lemons, slight green apples, toast and chalk.  Long, long finish.  Delicious.  This is wonderful on its own, and would work with most foods.  It would be great with shellfish.  Drink over the  next ten to f

Bodega Cerro del Toro 2020 Tannat

It’s not easy to find an approachable Tannat, one that drinks well right out of the bottle. One of the reasons is that the Tannat grape has more, and larger, seeds than other grapes therefore the tannins are more aggressive. Tame that and you’ve got it nailed. Uruguay is a country pushing Tannat to the world and with great results. This 2020 is a lively robust wine that will change your mind about this misunderstood grape.

One of the great classic Napa cabernets.  It is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon with 10% Petit Verdot and some Merlot and Malbec.  Inky purple in color, opaque and bright.  The nose has cassis, graphite, slight cedar, dark chocolate and spice.  Full bodied.  Great texture.  On the palate, this is delicious.  Complex and layered.  Cassis, earthiness, spices, minerality and chocolate.  Long finish.  This is still young but getting close to peak.  That said, it should go another twenty years.  Great on its own, this would work with Roasted meats, poultry and vegetables.

Very nice showing for this wine.  It is in a great place right now.  Inky purple in color, opaque and bright.  The nose has cassis, coffee, cedar and graphite.  Full bodied.  Medium tannins.  Nice texture.  On the palate, this is delicious.  Mature but plenty of time left.  Complex and deep.  Flavors of cassis, cocoa, spice and nice minerality.  Nice finish.  Drink over the next ten years or so.  Besides the usual spices, this would work well with bacon wrapped steaks.

Vintage:

Score:

Grade:

Current Price:
$60.00USD

This is a blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Malbec, and 2% Petit Verdot made with Estate grown fruit.  Inky purple in color, opaque and bright.  The nose has cassis, clay, slight plums, spice and slight chocolate.  Full bodied.  Firm tannins.  On the palate, this is very concentrated.  Complex and deep.  It could use some time to develop.  It will improve with some cellaring but should drink well for ten to fifteen more years.  This would go nicely with Grilled Stuffed Portobellos.

Inky purple in color, shimmering bright.  The nose is big with cassis, dust and spice.  Great texture.  Very tannic.  On the palate, flavors of cassis, chocolate, graphite and char.  Long finish.  This is open and delicious.  Drink over the next ten to fifteen years.  Classic Cabernet pairings would work well but also maybe a Mushroom Risotto.

This is a wine from the late Dennis Malbec.    Inky purple in color, opaque and bright.  The nose is nice with cassis, chocolate, cedar and spice.  Great texture.  Firm tannins.  Flavors of cassis with some graphite and char.  Long finish.  This is drinking well now and should have another ten years at least.  Great drinking on its own, this would work well with Roasted Eggplant dishes (and of course, beef).
