2003 Hobbs Shiraz, Australia, Barossa, Wine Review

Excellent wine.  This has really developed and while showing some signs of age at 15, there is plenty of life left.  Purple in color, some browning at the edges.  The nose has black raspberries and black pepper.  nice and not overblown.  On the palate, there is some layering of black raspberry fruit with char and slight pepper.  Nice texture.  Good finish.  This will work with larger or spicy foods quite well.  Good finish.  Right now, this is a very pretty wine and one that all Syrah lovers could find some enjoyment from.

2014 Penfolds Shiraz Bin 28 Kalimna, Australia, South Australia, Wine Review

Inky purple in color.  The nose has sweet black raspberries, slightly dusty.  On the palate, this is jammy black raspberries.  Medium tannins.  Thsi makes very easy drinking and while not over the top, this is more about instant enjoyment than depth and complexity.  Will need big, strong food to pair with but will drink well on its own.  Sure to be a crowd favorite.  Drink in the next five years.  $30 retail.  

2015 Yalumba Viognier Eden Valley, Australia, Wine Review

This bottle was drinking quite well at 3 years from vintage.  Light gold/green in color.  The nose is expressive; sugary with some honey dew melon.  On the palate, this is dry.  On the palate, this is dry.  Some lemon pith.  Just a bit of depth.  Round.  Very clean.  Nice.  Would work with lighter foods and makes a very nice starter wine.  $20 retail is a good value.  Drink now.  

2010 Giuseppe Rinaldi Barolo Tre Tine, Italy, Piedmont, Wine Review

This was pop and pour and it needed more air.  Of course very young, but still, this was excellent.  Ruby in color.  The nose has cherries, floral notes and slight tar.  On the palate, this is tannic.  Fresh acidity cuts across the tannins though revealing nice cherry fruit.  Showing some tight layering already. Great mouthfeel.  Of course, this begs for some hearty food.  Even more, another ten years in a good cellar should show some improvement.  

1989 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, France, Bordeaux, Pauillac, Wine Review

This seems to be at peak at this point.  It won't get any better not discounting bottle variation.  Ruby in color, slight browning at the rim.  The nose has cassis, cherries, slight baking spice, slight dried craisins, On the palate, there is good acidity here.  Tart cherries, cassis with underlying dry forest floor notes.  Nice finish.  This will work nicely with meet based dishes.  Give it 30 miutes of air to blow off the bottle stink and it is good to go.  

2009 Carlisle Zinfandel Papera Ranch, USA, California, Sonoma, Russian River Valley, Wine Review

So, I was visiting my sister in the Los Angeles area for Thanskgiving.  I went to a local wine store in Chatsworth and there on the shelf was this wine.  I doubt it had been stored pristinely, but, It ook a chance and was rewarded with my favorite Carlisle Zinfandel with some age on it, something I don't seem to have the patience or discipline for.  Purple in color, ruby at the rim.  The nose was nice with black cherries and bramble and slight pepper and cedar.  On the palate, it has that wonderful texture that I love about this wine.  A good amount of black cherry fruit and also some raspb

2013 EMH Cabernet Sauvignon Black Cat Special Selection, USA, California, Napa, Wine Review

Purple in color, ruby at the rim.  This is very tight and in fact, much less forgiving than bottles tried a year and two years ago.  The nose is dusty with black cherries.  On the palate, cassis and medium tannins.  It opens a bit with air, but at this point, it should probably sleep for five years.  If you must open one, give it 8+ hours of air.  There is a nice wine in there once it opens up, but a much higher potential.
