NV Camossi Franciacorta Extra Brut Rosé, Italy, Lombardia, Wine Review

If you don't know Franciacorta, you should remedy that as soon as you can. Franciacorta is a DOCG in Italy that makes wonderful sparkling wines. Many are as good as all but the very finest of Champagnes and most are made using the same traditional method. This one is a very nice value though they can be pricey. This is very pale salmon pink in color. Barely any color at all. The nose has a bit of toast on it with a hint of cherry juice. On the palate, the light cherry juice continues with great liveliness. A bit of char. Good finish. This really begs for food and will be quite versatile. Probably best to be consumed in the first five years from disgorgement. This bottle was dated 020418.

Franciacorta's are serious sparkling wines from Italy. They are not to be confused with Prosecco's or some of the other lighter sparkling wines that are very popular these days. The best Franciacorta's hold their own against sparkling wines made anywhere in the world. Light golden in color. There are a log of tiny bubbles. The nose has toast, lemon and slight lanolin. On the palate, this is slightly crisp. Full bodied. Nice, persistent lemon/lime notes. Good finish. This drinks well on its own and will work with all but the meatiest of dishes. This is a blend of Glera and Pinot Noir grapes. Salmon pink in color. Frothy with a variety of sized bubbles. The nose has strawberries and slight apple notes. Medium bodied. On the palate, there is nice acidity. Slightly sweet. Cherries and strawberries. A lingering finish. An enjoyable Prosecco with some depth as well. Very nice on its own, this should work well with food. It would go nicely with roasted turkey or duck. Drink over the next couple of years.

I preferred this version to the regular version although both are good. This seems to have more weight and complexity but your mileage may vary. Blended from Glera and Pinot Noir grapes in Friuli and the Veneto. They both have the same attractive style packaging. Pale salmon pink with silvery hues in color.
