Purple/garnet in color, mostly clear and bright. The nose is nice with cherries, slight "tree bark", and forest floor. Medium bodied. Good acidity. On the palate, this is nice but begs for food. Flavors of cherries, some dark cherries and nice earthiness. Nice finish. A nice choice for pizza. Drink over the next few years.
This is a blend of primarily Sangiovese with Cabernet Sauvignon and a bit of Merlot. It seemed a step or two up from the varietally labelled Sangiovese. Purple in color with some garnet hues, mostly opaque and bright. The nose has cherries, spice, black cherries, slight chocolate and slight forest floor. Full bodied. On the palate, there is some varietal complexity and depth. Light tannins. Flavors of cherries, black cherries and spice. Some acidity. Nice finish. This drinks easy but has some depth, too. This is an interesting wine. The grapes are grown at Lanza Vineyards in the Suisun Valley, which is located to the east of the Napa Valley in California (there is a Lanza Sangiovese also on the market) and shipped to Cape Cod where they are crushed and vinified. Sangiovese is of course the pre-eminent red grape of Tuscany and nearby regions of Italy. It has been an elusive grape to grow in California (or anywhere else for that matter).
