2020 Sineann Old Vine Zinfandel, USA, Washington, Wine Review

This is made from old vines originally planted in the 1920's and abandoned. Reclaimed around 20 years ago, these Zins are unique. Stylistically, they are middle of the road in terms of Zin. This vintage seems a bit lighter than others, but still quite excellent. Ruby in color, mostly clear and bright. The nose has cherries, spice and slight char. Medium bodied. On the palate, plenty of cherries, some black cherries and spice. A bit of black licorice. Nice finish. This is drinking well now and should continue to mature and drink well for another ten to fifteen years. Very food friendly, this is a great wine with pizza or burgers on the grill.

Always one of my favorite Zin's, in part for its uniqueness, it was wonderful concentration. Made from vines that getting close to 100 years old. This vineyard had been abandoned and then resurrected in the 1980's. Style wise it is middle of the road for Zin. Deep ruby in color. The nose has cherries, black cherries, baking spices and just a bit of char. On the palate, this is full bodied. At 14.8% Alc, this is not super high for a Zin. Peter Rosback releases his wines early, so it is nice to get a taste. These are from a vineyard that is about one hundred years old and was reclaimed around 20 years ago. It is an interesting take on a grape not often found in those parts. This years version seems a bit lighter on the fruit with a nice spicy quality to it. Purple/ruby in color. Sineann is an Oregon producer but they make wines in many places. The vines for this wine are almost one hundred years old and are just inside the Washington border. It is an excellent Zin, that is not full throttle but not shy either. It ages nicely too. Purple in color. The nose has some spice, plenty of cherries and a bit of plums. From one of oldest Zinfandel vineyards in the Pacific Northwest dating back to the early 1900's. I love this Zin as it is not boisterous but it is intense. It also ages well. Purple in color. The nose has raspberries, cherries and some spice. On the palate, this is deep. Tight right now. Cherry and black cherry fruit. Great acidity. Nice finish. Food friendly. Good now but will get more complex with age.

This is always a great value from Oregon/Washington producer Sineann. Peter Rossback makes a lot of a wide variety of wines. Once he is done, he makes a couple of different blends with the leftovers. The Abondante is the better of the two (the other is labelled Red Wine). This sells for around $22 and comes screw capped! This vintage is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet and Zinfandel.
