AP#4 for those keeping track. This is very, tight and needed over an hour to really start to open up. Yellow/gold in color. The nose has wet rocks, along with some peach/apricot. Medium bodied. Moderate acidity. On the palate, more about the peach fruit than minerality. Tasty. Sweet, not cloying. Good finish. This needs about five more years to open and then should drink well for another fifteen to twenty.
My first time trying this winery and I was very impressed though it had issues. Golden in color, with a slightly green hue to it. The nose smelled like fireworks or gun powder. I lovve that smell but it was a bit controversial. It also had a sweaty, wet wool sock note to it. In short, there seems to be a lot of sulfur showing here not too unlike how JJ Prums used to show a decade or so ago when the wines were young. None of that bothered me personally. There is also some lemon and wet rocks. On the palate, this has a nice texture. None of the sulfur carries thru to the palate. Lem
First time trying this producer. Light golden in color, clear and bright. The nose is big-ish with pineapple, tropical fruit, slight petrol and "wet rocks". Medium bodied with a slightly viscous texture. Good acidity. This is dry but the alcohol is not high. A bit more blowsy than expected but that is not bad. On the palate, pineapple, guava and minerality. Good finish. Tasty. This is drinking well but has at least another decade. It worked well with Szechuan food.
This is AP #2 for those who keep track. Yellow/gold in color. The nose is very tight and took a while to open. It was surprisingly already showing a hint of diesel along with "wet rocks", slight green apples and guava. Medium to full bodied. Excellent acidity. On the palate, this is again, quite closed and took more than an hour to open up and show much. Minerals, slight green apple and more minerals. It is sweet but barely so for a Spatlese. A bit more elegant than many prior vintages. Silvery/gold in color, clear and bright. The nose is tight and takes a while to open. Eventually showing lots of "wet rocks" and a decidedly concentrated, but not much fruit, nose. Its all about minerality. Viscous. Sweet not cloying on the palate. Moderate acidity. A bit of salinity and lots of minerality on the nose. Good finish. This is wine that those who don't like over-the-top wines will love. There is a lot here but with subtlety and less fruit.
