2018 Flora Springs Trilogy, USA, California, Napa, Wine Review

This is a blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Malbec and 9% Petit Verdot and always one of the stars of the Flora Springs portfolio. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has black raspberries, plums, a wet, rich earthiness and a sort of tree bark note that is intriguing. Full bodied with firm tannins. On the palate, black raspberries, and a lush chocolate milkshake with a touch of underlying earthiness. This is a decadent wine that while still young is delicious. Give it a few more years until maturity and the score should rise even higher. Drink's great on it own, this will work well with most grilled meats, fowl or veggies. Drink over the next fifteen or so years.

Trilogy is one of the more famous blends made in Napa and this represents the 35th vintage! This vintage is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 7% Malbec. Deep garnet in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose has black cherries, cassis, char, and slight milk chocolate and spices. Medium to full bodied. Medium plus tannins. Tingly acidity. On the palate, raspberries, cassis and some underlying char. Long finish with some chocolate notes. This is still young but should be good drinking over the next fifteen to twenty years. Realm is one of our favorite wineries and The Bard may be our favorite (so hard to choose) especially considering price. This is an expensive wine, but for the quality, this is a great wine. It is a Cabernet based blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot, and 2% Petite Sirah . Purple in color, ruby at the rim, opaque and bright. This bottle had been opened at 9:00 am for serving around 7:00 pm. It wasn't enough, so it got decanted around 6:30. Still was quite tight so it was left to sit in the glass for another hour where it eventually opened up. This bottle needs time. A 24 hour decant might not be out of line at this point.
