2017 Bevan Cellars EE Cuvée Tench Vineyard, USA, California, Napa, Oakville, Wine Review

This is a 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Cabernet Franc blend from the Oakville District in Napa. The 2017 vintage is proving to be a good vintage if not great. That said Russell Bevan is a great producer which counts more than vintage. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is great with cassis, black cherries, slight cigar box, spice and char. Full bodied. Firm tannins. ON the palate, cassis, black cherries, cedar and chocolate. Showing a nice complexity but drinking quite well. Long finish. This should drink well for another fifteen to twenty years. Its great on its own and will work well with many foods. Roast duck would be nice.

This is a blend of 53% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Petit Verdot. It is a delicious wine that is another label different from their Cabernet Sauvignon. Purple in color with some ruby swirls, mostly opaque and bright. The nose has black cherries, dark chocolate, cassis, plums, cedar and baking spices. Full bodied. On the palate, lots of black cherry fruit with some purple fruit over char and spice. Firm tannins. Good energy. Nice finish. This is drinking well and will probably improve a bit, but either way should drink well for ten to twelve more years. It drinks well on

Nice to try this from a "lesser" vintage but with some nice age on it. It is in a very good place right now. It is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Cabernet Franc. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has cassis, tobacco and a slight herbal notes. Also a but of spice. Full bodied. Medium tannins. On the palate, cassis with underlying char. Lots of depth. Nice finish. This won't get better but it is drinking very nicely and should continue for another eight to twelve years. It works on its own but worked great with mushroom ravioli. Expectations and hopes. Its hard not to have them but they do affect ones enjoyment of wine. This was an excellent wine but for whatever reason, vintage, cork, etc., was not up to expectations. A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. Purple in color, ruby at the rim, opaque and bright. The nose has cassis, spice and some cherries. On the palate, this is amazingly integrated and smooth. Cassis with some underlying spice. Not as deep nor complex as this wine can get in other vintages. That said, it drinks so easily, the bottle is drained quickly. I

This wine is half the price of Bevan's single vineyard wines and almost as good. It is expensive but vis-a-vis the quality it is worth buying a bottle or two. Purple in color, opaque and shimmering bright. The nose is great with cassis, leather, cedar and spice. Full bodied. Firm but smooth tannins. On the palate, juicy cassis with some cedar, tobacco and char. Long finish. Delicious if young. This drinks well on its own and would be at home at a Steak House. Drink over the next twenty years. It will still improve with good cellaring.

This is a blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot, 1% Malbec. Deep garnet in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose is lovely with cassis, cedar, black cherries, slight dried tobacco, spice and an interesting menthol note. Full bodied. Firm tannins. On the palate, this is delicious. Cassis, black cherries, spices and graphite. Lovely texture. Long finish. This is young but drinking well. It is great on its own and would work well with roasted meats and/or root vegetables. It will still improve. Drink over the next twenty years.
