Ruby in color. The nose has sour cherries and a slight barnyard note. Someone mentioned vanilla and there is a bit as well. This has a nice texture. Sour cherry fruit. Some depth. Long finish. It continued to open for a few hours suggesting that there is some upside to this wine. At around $40, there is some "Burgundy value" here.
Purple in color. The nose is tight. With a few hours of air it opened a bit more to show a nice earthy cherry quality. On the palate, this is soft. It has a sweet tart quality to the cherry fruit. A bit clipped on the finish. At $40, this may provide value if it develops over the next few years. Time will tell.
As Burgundy prices have gone thru the roof, Savigny is a nice places for affordable but quality Burgundy. This one is not exception. Ruby in color, clear and shimmering bright. The nose is bigger with cherries, black cherries, slight cocoa powder and spices. Full bodied. On the palate, the fruit is upfront and delicious. Black cherries with some fresh cherries. There is an underlying bit of spice and minerality. A touch of depth and complexity comes out with air. This is drinking quite well and will continue to mature if not improve. Checking on a 2005 Burgundy. Not ready yet. Ruby/purple in color. The nose is nice but primary with cherries and spice. On the palate, this has cherries, slight tannins and spice. Pretty monolithic at this stage but it eventually opens with air. Hold these for now.
Great showing for this 1er Cru. Ruby in color, clear and bright. The nose has cherries, spice and slight sandalwood. Medium bodied. Light tannins. Great texture. On the palate, this is complex and layered. Cherry fruit with some earthiness and spice. Good balance. Nice finish. This drinks well on its own but better with food. This would be nice with Salmon. Drink over the next ten years.
