Deep green/gold in color. The nose is very tight but eventually opens to show some peach along with a bit of white flowers. On the palate, there is a nice underlayer of minerality here. Sour apples on top. Drinking very well with a bit of air but even better with a selection of Austrian cheeses. Good finish. This retails for $53, so you can make your own value judgments. It is very enjoyable. It will be interesting to see how it develops from here.
This was my favorite of the 2021 GV's tasted at the winery. Green/gold in color, clear and bright. The nose is full of minerals with a bit of "slate" notes. Slightly oily texture. Medium to full bodied. Light but present tannins. On the palate, limes, minerals and wet rock notes. Good acidity. Plenty of depth and complexity. Long finish. Delicious. This had just been bottled, so will likely improve over the next couple of years. This should drink well for ten to twelve years. This would work quite well with a Thai green curry dish.
Very nice showing for this wine. Golden in color, clear and bright. The nose has limes, smoke/sulfur and slight white pepper. Medium bodied. Moderate acidity. On the palate, lime with some hay notes. Really pleasant, long finish. The acidity here helps this become more food friendly although it still drinks well on its own. It will work well with fried chicken and other fried foods. Drink over the next five to seven years.
From one of the oldest wineries in Europe and one of the oldest vineyards (first mentioned in print in 511AD), this is a beautiful Gruner. Green/gold/silver in color, clear and bright. The nose is pretty with slight floral notes, asparagus, apples and spice. Full bodied. Crisp acidity. On the palate, this has limes, and slight lemons with underlying acidity. Long finish. This is a delicious wine that is showing plenty of depth and complexity. Drink over the next ten to twelve years. It is excellent on its own and will work well with a wide variety of foods. This is a good wine, but given its $96 price tag, it was disappointing. A slight amount of trapped CO2. Medium gold in color. Slight sulfur to the nose but otherwise pretty tight. Some asparagus and limes. On the palate, this is soft. It has a dusty taste with slight limes. No obvious faults here. Given the pedigree, it may be shut down hard right now though that's not something usually associated with GV. Good acidity. Worked well with food. It did not seem to change in any respect for the two and a half hours in the glass.
This had just been bottled when I tasted it at the winery. It should be even better with just a bit of bottle age. Light golden in color, clear and bright. The nose is more about minerality than fruit though there is a slight note of lime. What a great, slightly oily texture. Rich yet crisp. On the palate, it is still more about minerality although the limes come thru a bit more. Complex. Long finish. Delicious. This will improve with a year or so of patience. Drink over the next ten years. This would go great with breaded and fried foods (chicken or pork)!
