2013 K Vintners Syrah The Deal Sundance Vineyard, USA, Washington, Wahluke Slope, Wine Review

Classis Washington Syrah. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has black raspberries, black olives, slight burnt rubber and char. Full bodied. On the palate, this is a big wine, but not over ripe. Lots of black raspberry fruit with char underneath. Good acidity. Nice finish. This drinks well on its own, but works a bit better with food. It should continue to mature for the next three to five years and be good for ten after that. It would be a nice match with Indian food.

Ruby/purple in color. The nose is nice with coffee, black raspberries and black olives. Very much a Washington meets the Northern Rhone nose. On the palate, this is tannic. Black cherry fruit. Tight layers of fruit and earth. Good acidity. Long finish. This continued to improve in the glass all night. Still very tight and young, there is certainly plenty of upside potential left. It will be interesting to see where this is in five years as it approaches peak.

This is a bigger wine, but for the K Vintners lineup, it seemed less oversized than usual. That is neither good nor bad, just a frame of reference. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has black raspberries, black pepper, roasted meats and slight rubber note. Medium to full bodied. On the palate, nice black raspberry fruit with underlying char. Medium tannins. Lots of depth. Delicious. Nice finish. This should improve a bit over the next five years and drink well for another seven to ten after that. Great on its own, this would work well with charcuterie.

Inky purple in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose is great with black raspberries, spice and cedar. On the palate, ripe black raspberry fruit with a slight sour cherry note. Medium tannins. Long finish. This is a big wine but not over done. It is just starting to calm down a bit as it enters middle age. This is drinking well now and should continue to drink well for another seven to ten years. This would work well with Indian food including yellow curries.

This is quite good but needs a bit of cellar time to hit its potential. Purple in color, ruby at the rim. The nose has black raspberries, roasted meats, leather and slight white pepper. It seems tight and tannic on the palate. With air it has pretty sweet black raspberry fruit with some charred meat and an underlying mineral streak. Good finish. This has plenty of upside but if drinking before 2020, give it a nice decant.

Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has black raspberries, black pepper, roasted herbs, slight burnt rubber, and a bit of cherries. Full bodied. Rich texture. Lots of vibrancy. On the palate, good fruit but not as boisterous as some vintages. Black raspberries, black cherries, with underlying char and roasted meats. Nice finish. This is obviously young but drinking well. It should mature for another five to ten years and drink well for eight to twelve after that. It drinks great on its own and will work for big flavored foods. Roasted chicken would work well.
