Inky purple in color. The nose is very tight. Black raspberries. spice/oak. Primary. On the palate, this is lush with a great texture. Black raspberry fruit. Seems deep but impenetrable. Firm tannins. Doesn't budge much with air. Plenty of upside on this but it needs a decade to sort itself out and open up. For now, its enjoyable but seems like the better course is to show patience.
Any time you get to try a Schrader wine it is a great night. But, when you go to a friends house and see this open, well, it doesn't get much luckier than that. Inky purple in color. The nose is great with cassis, blueberries, charcoal, spice and slight graphite. On the palate, this is precise and tight. It opens slowly in the glass with firm tannins. Cassis and blueberries carry thru but it seems bottomless. This needs a long decant or better yet a decade in the cellar. It is delicious now but so much upside. Long finish. A new winery for me. Wowza! Of course, this is also a great vintage. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is great with cassis, blueberries, baking spices, and slight chocolate. Full bodied with a lovely lush texture. On the palate, lots of lush fruit without being a fruit bomb. Medium tannins. Delicious. Still young and primary, it is hard to see where it goes, but I suspect it ages beautifully over the next twenty years or more. While patience will be rewarded, there will be no regrets opening one now. Probably better on its own now, as it ages it will work great w
We shared this bottle with Rob Greer over a recent lunch in Napa and then finished it up at dinner giving it a lot more time to breathe. For those on the mailing list, this is the current release. The vineyard is in a spectacular location across the street and down the hill a bit from Scarecrow. A very pretty property. The wine itself is quite young but might be the best Greer yet, and that is truly saying something. This is one of the best wines that Napa has to offer. It is made by Aaron Pott.
