2011 Trimbach Riesling Clos Ste. Hune, France, Alsace, Wine Review

One of the world's great Rieslings. This bottle had been purchased on release at the winery. Green gold in color. The nose is very expressive. Minerality, peach, and chervil. Great texture. Good acidity. Balanced. On the palate, this is dry. Notes of chalk with some peach and minerals. Very long finish. Not quite at peak but certainly showing some development. Drink over the next ten to fifteen years. Very food friendly, it would work well with Sushi and was excellent with Shishito Peppers.

Arguably the best Riesling in the world. This dry Riesling comes from Alsace. Light golden in color, clear and bright. The nose is great. Clean. Aromas of peach, slight apple, chalk, crushed stones and slight sea air. Medium to full bodied. A great backbone of acidity. On the palate, this is delicious. Dry. Notes of peach, apple and chalk. Slightly viscous texture. Long finish. Complex. Drinking great now, this should have another twenty or thirty years of life left. Very food versatile. It will match with almost anything. It would be awesome with Thai food.

This is the first vintage that Trimbach made a wine from this vineyard. Light golden in color. Great nose. There is a bit of orange peel along with minerals and a salinity on the nose. It is big right from the start. The palate takes a bit of air to get going. A relatively viscous texture. The wine is dry. Tight peaches eventually show more expressive peach along with minerals (crushed limestone). There is some warmth on the wine. Nevertheless, it worked great with food especially a Goat Cheese Tart (superb). Still young, it is drinking well now, but should continue to improve fo

This was purchased on release during a visit to the winery. It has improved a bit in the intervening four years. Light golden in color, clear and bright. The nose has a lot of lemons with underlying minerality. Medium bodied. On the palate, this is dry. Great minerality with a bit of lemons. It has some depth though still drinking youthfully. Very concentrated. Nice finish. This went great with Thai food. It will drink fine on its own but would work better with food. Drink over the next ten to twelve years.

This is a relatively inexpensive (although the price has probably doubled since this was released) Riesling from one of the top producers in Alsace. At age 16, it is drinking nicely. Light golden in color, clear and bright. The nose is clean, no petrol, with some apples, light citrus and a hint of minerality. Medium bodied. Slightly viscous. Moderate acidity. On the palate, this is dry. Apples and minerals. Some lemons. Moderate finish. This is past prime but still offering up something. Drink up. This is better with food. It worked with a Spinach-Artichoke dip. No easy feat.
