I believe this is a $5 wine from Trader Joe's (at least it used to be). Ruby in color. The nose has cherries. On the palate, this is light with cherry jam flavors. Some heat on the finish. I suppose for $5 there is good value here. Nice choice for people on a budget. Seems to be holding up ok, not sure how much life it has left.
Another gorgeous Syrah from John Alban. Inky purple, opaque and bright. The nose is big with black raspberries, chocolate, slight black olive and leather. Full bodied. On the palate, this is a huge wine. Lush black raspberry fruit, chocolate, slight black pepper and baking spice. A nice bit of acidity works well. 15.2% ABV but not noticeable on the palate or nose. Delicious. Long finish. This still shows quite young and will calm down a bit with age. This can do another twenty years but those who don't like big wines probably won't like this.
