Deep golden in color. The nose is hot with a nutty note and slight dried honey. On the palate, there is a ton of alcohol showing. Slightly viscous. Barely sweet. Some nuttiness. On the finish, the alcohol vapors continue. The label says 19% and it was every bit of that. Not sure where it goes from here. It seemed surprising it was not labeled liquoroso. When slowly sipped it offered some warmth and enjoyment but it is not a wine for the dinner table.
There are a lot of Vin Santos out there. Very few are very good and even less are outstanding. This is one of the better ones. Iced tea color. The nose is very nice with slight chocolate covered raisins but also a bit of blood orange and caramel. Clean and not oxidized. On the palate, this is viscous. Caramel, blood orange and raisins. Complex. It is sweet not cloying but a little goes a long way. Long finish. Worked well with a not too sweet dessert.
This is a late harvest syled dessert wine from Arizona. Light golden in color. There is a lot of volatile acidity on the nose, but with air, some/most of it blows off. There is some honey and white raisins on the nose. On the palate this is viscous. Slightly sweet though not cloying. It lacks some much needed acidity. The honey comes thru to the palate, along with slight peach. Shorter finish. It worked with a not too sweet carrot cake. It should last for five to ten more years although the VA is a bit worrying.
This is an interesting white from central Italy. Golden in color, slightly deep, clear and bright. The nose is nice with apricots and slight honey note. Medium bodied. Oily texture. Dry on the palate with good acidity. On the palate, guava with almonds and slight lime. Some depth and complexity. Long finish. This is nice on its own but better with food. It would go nicely with a plate of Proscutto di Parma. Drink over the next few years.
Lugana is a wine region in Italy along the southern side of Lake Garda. The grape is Turbiana, previously known as Trebbiano di Lugana. 13% abv. Golden in color, clear and bright. The nose is spicy with slight peach. My guess is that on release, the peach notes were stronger but have faded over time. Slightly oily texture. Medium bodied. On the palate, there is some sweetness to the wine (demi-sec?). Also apples. This bottle seemed well past prime but it may not have been a proper bottle as it has some mustiness to it. There seem to be a lot of references to this wine as coming from Colline Teatine IGT, but the bottle states Abruzzo Bianco DOC. It is a blend of 50% Trebbiano, 30% Pecorino, and 20% Cococciola. Golden in color with silver hues, clear and bright. The nose has lots of minerality, some lemon notes and a hint of floral tones. Medium to full bodied. Slightly oily texture. Crisp acidity. On the palate apples, tart apples and minerality. Deep. Long finish. This is an excellent white wine that would be double or triple the price if the label was from a more "prestigious" area.
