This is the flagship wine, 100% Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley in Oregon.    Deep garnet in color, mostly opaque and night.  The  nose is dusty with black cherries.  Light tannins.  Good balance.  On the palate, black cherries and cherries with a musky quality that is interesting.  Good finish.  This is an earthy, musky Pinot that Burgundy lovers might really enjoy.  It is nice on its own but would be better with food.  It would work well with some soft, stinky cheese.  Drink over the next ten years.

This is Chenin Blanc from the Loire Valley in France.  The name represents the "Three Clays" or three clay dominant parcels of land.  It is not labelled as such but is essentially a Demi-Sec or Half-dry wine.  Light golden in color with green hues, clear and bright.  The nose is nice with an apple sauce quality.  Slight, slight tannins.  Good acidity.  Medium bodied.  On the palate, this is slightly (or perhaps a bit more) sweet.  Flavors of apples with a bit of wild herbs and a chalky minerality.  Good finish.  This is drinking well on its own and will work with some lighter foods.  Fried

This is a nice, middle-of-the-road in style, Pinot Noir.  Cristom's flagship Pinot is generally a good value and high quality.  Purple/ruby in color, mostly opaque and bright.  The nose has cherries, sandalwood and slight baking spices.  Firm tannins.  Soft texture.  Good balance.  On the palate, great cherry fruit with some spice and just a hint of forest floor.  This is very young and needs air or more cellaring.  That said, it is very enjoyable and drinks well on its own.  It will also work well with many foods from grilled salmon to roasted fowl.  Drink over the next eight to fifteen ye

This is a wine from Morocco made by Rhone producer Alain Graillot at a Moroccan winery.  Purple in color, opaque and bright.  The nose has black raspberries, black pepper,  roasted meats and spices.  Full bodied.  Medium tannins.  On the palate, this is a big Syrah by Rhone terms (not California).  Flashy black raspberry fruit with some depth.  Flavors of black raspberries with some herbal notes and black pepper.  Good finish.  This drinks well on its own and would work nice with meaty foods.  Shawarma seems like it would be a fun match.

This is a dry Riesling from the Finger Lakes in NY, an area that has continued to raise the quality of its wineries and wines over the lest twenty years.  This is outstanding.  Deeper gold in color with some green hues.  I would assume it is fermented and aged in neutral oak due to the color, but can not verify this.  On the nose its more about minerality with slight lemony notes.  Oily texture.  Medium bodied.  Good balance and acidity.

Whitehall Lane Winery has a focus on red wines, more Cabernet driven wines. This 2019 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Zinfandel offers notes of blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, boysenberry, and huckleberry. The fruit is fully structured by moderate to mature tannins, the use of judicious oak, and a mild acidity. There are back notes of vanilla, sandalwood, and light campfire. This is definitely a food friendly red wine to pair with a various dishes, but it’s also a wine that makes you remember how good Napa wines can be when they’re treated with restraint.

This is a Sauvignon Blanc from the eastern edge of the Loire Valley.  Green/gold in color, clear and bright.  The nose is waxy with lemon and some salinity.  Tight.  Slightly oily texture.  On the palate, peaches with salinity and slight minerality.  Moderate acidity.  Good finish.  This is nice on its own but better with food.  Seafoods and lighter foods would be best.  A nice pairing would be grilled fish.  Drink over the next few years.

This is a spritzy wine from northern Spain.  Always an excellent value in lighter white wine.  Light golden in color with slight green hues, clear and bright.  There are a fair amount of smaller bubbles (trapped CO2) in the glass that have some persistence.  The nose is nice with limes, salinity and crushed shells.  Light bodied.  Tart acidity.  On the palate, tart lemon lime notes with a hint of peach.  This is nice on its own but at its best with a plate of shellfish.  Drink over the next few years.

This is a Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon blend from Napa.  Light green/gold in color, clear and bright.  The nose is slightly grassy with a touch of lemon verbena.  Very clean.  Medium bodied.  Slightly viscous.  Good crisp acidity.  On the palate, the lemon is a bit more pronounced with a steely quality.  Long finish.  Refreshing.  This is a very nice white that drinks easy on its own and will work well with lighter foods.  A nice wine for Pork Chops.  Drink over the next three to five years.

2021 Carlisle Zinfandel Sonoma County, USA, California, Wine Review

Vintage:

Score:

Grade:

This is Carlisle's basic Zin. Unfortunately, they don't offer this in large allocations or I would buy even more. It is a fantastic value for a quality Zinfandel. It is a blend of 47% Sonoma Valley Zinfandel, Old Hill Ranch, 20% Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel, Teldeschi Ranch, 20% Sonoma Valley Zinfandel, Pagani Ranch, 10% Dry Creek Valley Petite Sirah, Mounts Ranch, and 3% Sonoma Valley Alicante Bouschet, Pagani Ranch. Purple in color with some ruby hues, mostly opaque and bright. The nose is strong with bramble, red raspberries, some black cherries, char and spice. Full bodied.
