2014 Booker Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon The Ones, California, Paso Robles - Wine Review

Wow, who knew they could make a Cabernet this great in Paso Robles.  Just a stunning bottle of wine that will no doubt earn a perfect score with just a bit more time in the bottle.  Purple in color.  The nose has cassis, baking spices, and a bit of cedar.  Full bodied.  On the palate, this has a lovely juciness to it.  Lots of cassis fruit.  An underpinning of earth with plenty of structure.  There is a lot of oak showing but it all came together with some swirling in the glass.  No doubt a couple of years and this will be close to or seamless.  It works with food.  Nice finish.  As I said,

This is an amazing wine.  It is still young but like most of Russell Bevan's red wines, this is already drinking well.  As an aside, it's funny how Bevan's white wines take longer to be ready than his reds.  Inky purple in color with a ruby rim.  The nose is gorgeous with cassis, some pencil lead and cedar.  On the palate, a big and bold wine but not rough.  Lots of cassis fruit with depth.  Just delicious.  I think a couple years brings out that depth a bit and this gets to be a perfect score.  Right now its like a bottomless pit.  Long finish.  At the same time, this wine has the acidity

Light golden in color.  i believe this is their most recent release of a Chardonnay.  The nose is very nice with grapefruits, a floral quality and slight peach.  There is also a vanilla component to this wine.  On the palate, there is some oak showing that will surely integrate quickly.  It is very tight at first but explodes in the glass with air.  Slightly oily texture which I love.  Great fruit; peaches, grapefruits and even a bit of honey.  Long, long finish.  This wines best days are ahead but if you are lucky enough to have multiple bottles, drinking one young should not be missed eit

This is a blend with Chardonnay being the dominant grape.  Deep/medium gold in color.  The nose is very nice.  Chalky with some grapefruit but also a slight honey and peach.  On the palate, this is a bit tight and probably will improve with cellaring or decanting.  Deep and complex on the palate with a slightly oily texture.  The honey and peach notes come out more but there is also a pleasant bitterness especially on the finish that is really nice.  Long finish.  There is a lot of structure to this wine.

Pale but vibrant ruby in color.  The nose has some slight cherries and a bit of rhubarb.  A nice foam with a lot of little bubbles.  On the palate, this is good but lacks depth especially considering the price.  Nevertheless, an excellent wine.  The cherries with a slight bitter cherry flavors carry over to the palate.  Clean with a nice finish.  And of course, a gorgeous bottle.

Excellent wine and my favorite 2015 Beaujolais (So far).  Deep purple in color.  The nose is dusty with black cherries and a bit of fig.  On the palate, lovely silky texture.  Black cherries and black raspberries with nice spice to it.  Sort of a combination of Syrah and Zin in a good way but a bit lighter.  Firm tannins.  This got better all night and has lots of upside but it is delicious now.

Inky purple in color.  The nose has cedar with some cherries and black cherries.  On the palate, black cherries.  Medium tannins.  This wine is excellent but it seems to be close to ready to drink now and without the potential for much more improvement.  That is not a bad thing (and it may even be a good thing) though.

2015 Château Thivin Côte de Brouilly Cuvée Godefroy, Beaujolais - Wine Review

A bit lighter in style (truer?) than most of the other 2015 Beaujolais I tasted.  To me, that was a good thing.  Purple/ruby in color.  The nose is very tight at first but then opens to cherries with a touch of spice.  Maybe also some rhubarb.  On the palate, this is tart cherries.  Bold acidity.  I like this a lot but some may have issues with the tartness.  Nice complex.  Kept improving all night long.  A Fass Selection wine.

Purple/Ruby in color.  The nose has dark cherries and a nice earthiness to it.  Just a hint of funk.  On the palate, this has sweet black cherry fruit.  Seems packed quite tight.  It just starts to unwind in the glass but needs some cellar time.  Firm tannins.
