This is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot, and 1% Malbec. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has a bit of brett on it along with a nice earthiness and cassis and slight mocha. Full bodied. Slightly drying tannins. Good balance. On the palate, nice depth and complexity. Flavors of cassis, slight baking spices and chocolate. Long finish. This seems to be at peak but should have another five to ten years left. Nice on its own, this will work well with bigger foods. A nice wine with a Ribeye or Roasted Acorn Squash.

From Magnum. This is a blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petite Verdot and 5% Malbec. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is dominated by Brettanomyces which comes across as a "ripe" barnyard. Some people love this while others are averse. This is a spoilage yeast that will only bloom when the bottle sees warmer temperatures. In addition, there are plums and cassis with some green bell pepper and spice. Full bodied. On the palate, this drinks a bit cleaner. Very earthy with cassis, bell pepper and black cherries. Medium tannins. Long fin

This is a 50/50 blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Purple in color, shimmering bright. The nose is dusty with black cherries, cassis, and some char. Full bodied. Soft texture. Medium tannins. On the palate, this is tight but complex. It unwinds slowly. Black cherry fruit with some spice. Good finish. This is drinking well and will work well with many foods. Certainly, it would be nice with Rotisserie Chicken. Drink over the next seven to ten years.

This is a blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot and 6& Cabernet Franc and some Petit Verdot and Malbec from Napa. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is dusty with cassis, blueberries, black cherries, tobacco, spice and char. Thick tannins. Good energy. Full bodied. On the palate, this is tasty as well as complex. Flavors of cassis, black cherries, blueberries, chocolate, and spice. Long finish. This is a bit youthful but should drink well for another twenty years. It is great on its own and will work with big foods such as a grilled Ribeye Steak.

Somehow, they straddle the line between old and new, corporate yet having a sense of place, and making a wine that is affordable and good value for the quality. Realm is one of our favorite wineries and The Bard may be our favorite (so hard to choose) especially considering price. This is an expensive wine, but for the quality, this is a great wine. It is a Cabernet based blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot, and 2% Petite Sirah . Purple in color, ruby at the rim, opaque and bright.
