This is from Bill Harlan. At age 15, this wine seems to be at peak and is singing. Purple in color. The nose has cassis, slight smoke, slight vanilla and slight cigar. On the palate, this has a nice silky texture. Slight wispy tannins. Lots of cassis fruit. Plenty of depth and tight layering that unwinds in the glass. This drinks like a almost mature Bordeaux wine. Will work with meats and heartier foods.
This is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Cabernet Franc, 13% Merlot, and 13% Petite Verdot. Purple in color, ruby at the rim, opaque and bright. The nose is very nice with cassis, black cherries, cigar box, vanilla and slight smoke. Full bodied. On the palate, this has a nice texture. Deep, it unwinds in the glass. Light tannins. Nots of cassis, cherries with some vanilla and a hint of char. This wine comes off as much more elegant than their Cabernet and more seamless. Wow. Great wine. Inky purple in color. The nose has cassis, coffee, slight floral note and graphite. Its big and gorgeous. On the palate, this has an amazing texture. Lush but precise. Great balance and acidity. Tons of fruit but also depth. Tight layering that unwinds in the glass. Black raspberries, graphite and underlying char. This wine is very intense but also quite delicious. It works with big foods. Still young and will continue to improve for a decade and be good for another decade or two after that.
Pop and pour. Purple with ruby swirls, still looking bright. The nose is nice. Cassis, dried currents, tobacco and dust. On the palate, this took some time to open and then was singing. At peak or perhaps just a bit past, this won't last as long as the 01 or the 94, but it has plenty of great drinking left. Layers of cassis, dried fruits and dry earth. Good balance. Very food friendly. A lot in common with and older Bordeaux but still has some energy and sunshine screaming California.
