2020 Aster Ribera del Duero El Espino, Spain, Wine Review

This is 100% Tinta del Pais (Tempranillo) from Ribera del Duero in Spain. Deep garnet in color with some purple hues, mostly opaque and bright. The nose is more classic with black cherries, cherries, anise, slight coffee and spice. Medium to full bodied. Good balance. Medium tannins. On the palate, this is tasty. Loads of red cherries with some black cherries along with a bit of coffee and spice. Long finish. This is nice on its own but better with food. This would work well with roasted duck or chicken. Drink over the next ten to twelve years.

This is a beautiful 100% Tinto del Pais (Tempranillo) from Ribera del Duero in Spain. It is a great example of the style of wine often found in RdD these days. It's a bit more "modern" and fruit forward than classic Rioja (the region next door). Purple in color with a think ruby rim, mostly opaque and bright. The nose is great with black cherries, slight cherries, black raspberries, fresh tobacco, baking spice and slight char. Great energy and balance. Light to medium tannins. This is 100% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo). Garnet in color, clear and bright. The nose is nice with black cherries, dusty attic notes and some cherries. Medium bodied with good acidity. On the palate, tart black cherries and some cherries with underlying char. Seems to be about at peak right now but should drink well for another three to five years. This is nice on its own and will work well with meats and fowl. A nice wine for a sausage pizza.

This is drinking well and seems to be at or possibly just pack peak. It is a pretty modern take on Tempranillo but with some bottle age it shows traditionally. Purple in color, ruby at the rim, opaque and bright. The nose is nice with cherries, cedar and spice. Full bodied. Medium tannins. On the palate, cherries with spice and slight smoke. Nice finish. This is ageing gracefully and doesn't seem almost twenty years old. That said, these should be drunk up at this point. Nice on its own but better with food. It would work well

This is one of the great wines of the world. It is 100% Tempranillo (locally called Tinto Fino). This particular bottle was a magnum! Wow. It is still quite young and probably could have used a 24 hour decant. That said, it was gorgeous. Purple in color.

This is a Tempranillo wine. Deep ruby in color. The nose has cherries,black cherries and baking spice. Also some dustiness. On the palate, this has a nice texture. It is warm and dusty with black cherry fruit. Some complexity. Nice finish. This will still get better but it is drinking well right now. Another few years and it should be close to peak. It will go well with roasts and grilled meats.
