The Vibe:
Established in 1881 as the Twin Fir Winery, Martin Ray Winery is the oldest winery in continuous operation in Sonoma County (the winery remained operational during prohibition by selling sacramental wines). The winery retains much of its old time look to this day and it feels like a step back in time when you enter the grounds.
The existing picnic area has been revamped to accommodate about 36 visitors. It features teak furniture, market umbrellas, fountain, shaded walkways, amazing gardens, landscaping and paths which have made it a picnic destination for visitors.
Tasting room open daily.
Tours are given by appointment only.
Known For:
Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Big Cabernets
Not good for:
- People seeking a place to hold an event such as a wedding or corporate gathering.
- Anything elegant. People seeking million dollar tasting rooms or elaborate landscaping will be disappointed.
Particularly good if you are seeking:
- Good Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, or big Cabernets.
- Picnic facilities that harbor beautiful landscaping.
- A winery with a sense of history. Any history buff interested in exploring the evolution of California wine should make Martin Ray a destination spot on their wine tour.
